1.A Fearless Fighter
Harris visited a Hindu temple and a Black Baptist church as a teenager, adopting both her South Asian and Black backgrounds. Kamala Harris writes in her book, “My mother knows that she was fostering two black daughters, and she was firm to make sure we will turn into a confident woman.”

Harris further highlighted a balanced lifestyle in an interview with Lena Dunham’s email newsletter, Lenny Post. “Kamala goes to the gym every morning. About a half-hour. She put on her running shoes and get onto the treadmill. She doesn’t care what time it is in the morning. It has your heart pumping. It raises your blood pressure.”
She is a morning person who starts her day at 6 o’clock after jogging for half an hour. She ends up having a bowl of Raisin Bran with almond milk and tea with honey and lemon before leaving for work.
4.History In The Making
Kamala Harris, who graduated from Howard University, would be the first vice president from a historically Black university. No president has ever attended a historically black college or university.
If elected, Kamala Harris would be the first woman, first African-American. First, Asian-American to serve as Vice President of the United States. Her mother embedded in her a motto that she lives by: “You can be the first, but don’t be the last.”
To help protect her cultural identity, her grandfather gave her name Kamala, which means “lotus” in Hindi and is another name for the Hindu goddess Lakshmi. Devi, the vice president’s middle name, means “goddess” in Sanskrit, another reference to Hinduism. “A goddess-worshipping culture creates powerful women,”
6.Passion For Music
Putting all else aside, Kamala has another love. She enjoys listening to music. She believes she owns a bit of Bob Marley’s music. Miles Davis’ “Sketches of Spain” is her favorite song to listen to at the end of a busy day.
Her favorite is hip hop and rap. In 2017 she introduced a playlist on Spotify that included “Love on Top” by Beyoncé, “Waterfalls” by TLC, “Juicy” by The Notorious BIG, and “Humble” by Kendrick Lamar.
